Band recording
Drums, bass and guitars together in one room — isolation where it matters, eye contact where it helps — so you capture the band’s energy before overdubbing everything.

The 42 m² live room at Nelkenshift suits indie, rock, funk and jazz setups that want to play together. Drum screens, separate amp spots and 12 inputs give flexibility without a stadium feel. Engineer Lotte or Sven runs takes from the desk while you stay connected on the floor.
Book a day block or hourly time via contact; we respond within 2 business days. Unsure how to split budget between live takes and overdubs? Read band recording and budget before you lock dates.
Process
- 01
Plan
Setlist, tempos and who plays live vs overdubs later. We reserve the room and draft a mic plan for your lineup.
- 02
Soundcheck
Tune drums, set bass level, test guitar bleed. Everyone gets a headphone mix; we take as long as needed.
- 03
Live takes
Several full passes per song, plus section takes if a bridge keeps slipping. Takes are labelled in the session immediately.
- 04
Overdubs and export
Optional extra parts same day if time allows. Multitrack export or session handover; we archive 24 months.
Which bands fit
Lineups up to about 6 — typically drums, bass, two guitars, keys or horns — match our capacity. Demos, EPs and album tracks for streaming are as welcome as a release single.
Need vocals after the band day? Chain a vocal session in the booth. Mixing and mastering are booked separately so you can listen at home before the final mix pass.
Room and acoustics
42 m² means standing close — often what bands want for feel. Ceiling treatment and floor keep the room controlled; we mic drums with overheads and spots, bass DI plus amp if you want, guitars via cab or re-amp later.
High-gain rock needs different placement than jazz brushes — we discuss that in intake, not in your only booked hour. No secret sauce: standard professional capture tuned to your material.
If you tour with your own drum kit, tell us shell sizes and cymbal count so we can plan stands and spill before load-in.
Day structure
An eight-hour block sounds long, but soundcheck, breaks and changeovers eat time. We advise upfront which songs go live vs overdub — see our budget guide. The first hour after arrival is often fine-tuning; do not plan ten new songs unless you only want rough guides.
Shorter slots work for small lineups or punch-ins on existing sessions. Popular evening slots fill fast — book ahead — hours are Monday–Friday 10:00–22:00, Saturday 11:00–18:00, Sunday by appointment only..
Prep before you arrive
Tune at home: fresh strings, drum heads if needed, working tuners. Bring a tempo map, arrangement notes and sonic references (not just ambition). Label your own DI boxes if you bring them.
- Setlist with keys and BPM
- Who plays what live
- Billing contact
- Click track as WAV if used
Maximum 6 players in the room; extra visitors by arrangement for safety and focus.
What you receive
Labelled multitracks (WAV, 24-bit / 48 kHz default) per instrument, synced from a common start. Full DAW session on request when agreed; otherwise stems are enough for any mixer.
We sometimes print rough monitors for quick feedback — not a substitute for mixing. For handoff to an external mixer: exporting stems. Files stay 24 months with Nelkenshift B.V.; local backup is yours.

Out of scope
Production, writing parts, hiring backline beyond what is in the room, and post-production are not automatic under Band recording. Catering is on you; shops are walking distance in De Pijp.

FAQ
Can we use our own amps?
Yes if they are safe and fit the room. Share wattage and cab size beforehand so mics are ready.
How many songs in one day?
Depends on complexity and how tight you play live. Three to five full live takes is a honest starting point; more if arrangements are simple and soundcheck is quick.
Do you record on location?
No — Band recording is in our studio. Home tracks can overdub after the band day.
When is the deposit due?
After date and scope are confirmed we request 30% per terms. Balance follows the agreed schedule.
