Mixing
From multitrack to a coherent song: levels, panorama, EQ and dynamics built carefully so it translates on speakers and earbuds without nasty surprises.

Mixing at Nelkenshift is for artists and bands with recordings — from our live room or booth, or elsewhere — who want a clear, release-ready balance. Engineer Milan works in the control room with transparent processing; no one-size-fits-all preset for every genre.
Send stems or a session via contact; we confirm scope, price and timeline within 2 business days. Unsure about exports? Our stem guide covers naming, headroom and formats before upload.
Process
- 01
Brief
References, tempo, key and what feels wrong in your rough mix. We pick hourly, per-song or EP pricing and agree revisions.
- 02
Import check
Stems for noise, clipping and phase. Missing tracks or wrong lengths get fixed first — no surprise invoices.
- 03
Mix pass
Balance, bus compression, effects where needed, automation on vocals and breaks. No mastering loudness; headroom for mastering.
- 04
Revisions and export
Up to 2 feedback rounds on agreed points. Final mix as WAV; instrumental or TV mix by arrangement.
Who it is for
Singer-songwriters with home recordings, bands after band recording, rappers with layered vocals, and labels wanting a neutral second set of ears. Singles are as normal as an EP package.
Spoken-word and podcast mixing belongs under podcast recording; music mixing focuses on timing, musicality and space. Client minimum age 16; younger artists via parent or guardian.
What we need from you
Stems from the same start point, same sample rate (48 kHz recommended), 24-bit WAV, no limiter on your stem export master. Clear labels: Kick, Snare, Bass DI, Gtr L, Lead Vox, Bgv, FX returns.
- Rough mix or reference (optional but helpful)
- Lyrics or structure notes for complex edits
- Tuning or timing wishes upfront
- Billing contact and file transfer method
Read exporting stems first; bad exports delay the mix more than an extra revision.
Workflow in the room
We anchor on drums and bass, build guitars/keys, place vocals forward without harshness. Reverb, delay and distortion get section-specific homes, not a blanket wash. Automation lets choruses breathe differently from intros.
We print a short reference level check against your rough mix so you know the first pass is in the right ballpark before you send detailed notes.
For loudness before mastering: the mix stays dynamic enough for later mastering; we do not push to streaming limits here. Vocals-only mixes are possible on per-song or hourly rates depending on track count.
Revisions and notes
Each song includes 2 revision rounds on written points (e.g. “vocal 1 dB lower in verse 2”, “less muddy bass”). Vague “make it warmer” without a reference costs iterations; concrete notes work best.
Extra rounds beyond agreement are billed at hourly rate. After sign-off we deliver final WAV; later changes are a new job. See terms and conditions for payment and deliverable rights.
Turnaround
Timing depends on queue and complexity. A single song with clean stems often gets a first mix within a few business days; EPs are blocked together for consistent sound. Rush may carry a surcharge — ask via email.
We work Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 11–18; revision replies within a reasonable window, typically within 2 business days. Project files archived 24 months.
Rates
Amounts include 21% VAT. B2B invoicing with 14-day terms where applicable. Larger packages may need a 30% deposit — shown on your quote.

Mastering, vocal editing (comping/tuning), recording new parts, sample clearance and distribution sit outside Mixing. We do not repair corrupt files for free — that is hourly work.

FAQ
Can I attend the mix?
Yes by appointment in the control room. Many clients send stems and review online — that saves travel.
Do you mix in Atmos or surround?
Default delivery is stereo WAV for streaming. Surround is not part of Mixing; ask for bespoke work if you need a specific format.
What if stems are out of sync?
We fix small offsets; large issues are discussed first. Prevent this by exporting from the same session start.
Is mastering included?
No. After the mix comes mastering as a separate step. We leave enough headroom.
Which rate for three singles?
Three separate songs are three times €285 unless you deliver together and want matched sound — then we discuss the EP package.
